Obedience training can make you dog a great part of the family. Did you know the AKC has a test for all types of dogs mixed, purebred and registered. The test that the AKC performs is called the Canine Good Citizen Test (CGC). AKC has a basic training course to help you realize your dog's potential. You can usually find one of these courses near you, do a quick Google search for your area.

When it comes to choosing a trainer you usually have two choices. You can choose obedience training in a group format or one on one. Both have there pluses and minuses. You may enjoy the group setting and your dog may need the socialization of many different sizes and types of dogs. One on One training offers great personal care that you may be looking for. Personal training has it's benefits because your not waiting while the obedience trainer works and handles other dogs. If you dog requires a lot of attention you may want to try one on one training and ask if your pet is ready for a larger class.

Not all trainers and dog obedience classes are listed in the yellow pages. Call your vet for a recommendation or even better call the better business bureau. Talk with other dog owners to see if they have any local experience with training courses in your area. There are also many great dog obedience training courses online. I have written a great independent review of the top dog training courses the internet has to offer. See how the top courses stack up.
